Nidingen – magical place for conference activity or holiday excursion

With a boat ride of 20-30 minutes, our sister company Destination Gottskär-Nidingen takes you to Nidingen. You come to a completely different world only eight nautical miles (15 km) from Gottskär Nidingen is a moraine formed during the last ice age and in 1624 a lighthouse was built on the island by Denmark. It became Sweden’s first lighthouse place in 1645 when Halland became Swedish at the peace in Brömsebro.

During the years, nidingen received several houses, including housing for the lighthouse staff. Today, four of the houses are used for accommodation for conference and private guests.

Nidingen is open June 1 – August 31

When you have a conference with us, an excursion to Nidingen is one of our most exciting ACTIVITIES. You can even put parts of your meeting at Nidingen and it will be a nice combination of environments at your conference or kick-off.
You ride comfortably and safely in a large RIB, Rigid Inflatable Boat, which takes up to 12 passengers per ride. We have both warm overalls and life jackets that you can borrow.

If you stay at our hotel during your holiday or have your wedding party in our restaurant, an excursion to Nidingen is one of the more memorable experiences you find on the west coast.

Boat excursions in the inner skerryyard are running from May 1 to mid-September.

If you have a conference with us, you can book the activity through us.

Facts about two unique lighthouses

Below we reveal a little more about the two lighthouses/ islands that we are so happy to take you to with our RIB-boat. (Rigid inflatable Boat). More beautiful pictures you can see in PICTURES / GALLERY

Nidingen

Nidingen was created by the last ice age about 12,000 years ago and is a 4 km long drumline. 3 km of the “reef” lies hidden beneath the sea, while 1 km protrudes above and forms the island itself nowadays.
The treacherous reefs that stand out to the east and west from the island are believed to have caused about 600 sea accidents over the years from the 1600 onwards. The Danes started with a twin-lighthouse on the Island in1624 and it became the world’s first twin-lighthouse. When the new lighthouse was built in 1945 with its flashing character, it was possible to turn off the two old stone towers from 1834.
Over the years, residential buildings and storage buildings have been built, etc. for the four-guard families who after several renovations now have accommodation and meeting rooms.

Nidingen is a unique tourist destination and part of our national heritage. Among other things, you will experience:

  • Countless stones of all sizes and colors
  • Unique old lighthouses
  • Crystal clear bathing water
  • “Islands” formed by waves and streams one day but disappears the next day…..
  • A rich bird life, (Sweden’s third largest bird station)
  • Seals during a large part of the summer
  • Porpoise (wale-fish) on the boat trip between Gottskär and the Island
  • Sweden’s sunniest place for the 10 last documented summers.

Lilleland

The lighthouse Lilleland, majestically she stands on the treacherous Lillelands reef that has caused a lot of shipwrecks over the years until the lighthouse was finished 1946. The Lilleland reef protrudes from the eastern tip of the Nidingen and is 1 km long.

The reef and the lighthouse have been named after the small skerry Lilleland that does not really exist. How is that possible?
Well: The top 1000 cubic meter layer of the round rocks on the reef are set in motion when waves and streams are cooperating properly. Instead of remaining scattered on a large area under the water, they are piled on each other and form a small skerry above the water surface. This skerry can be anything from a few meters to the largest we documented that was 55 meters long and about 8 meters in width, and 1 meter high. On our excursion to Lilleland with our RIB we will drive carefully right next to the edge of the reef so you can see all the rocks and the steep wall that goes down to 40 meters deep north of the lighthouse.

A sunny day where you see a small island formed and beautiful clouds above Nidingen.

An unusual shape on Lilleland skerry. Closer we can not go with the boat this day.
