Experience the island, bird life or paddle…..

The RIB trip to Nidingen plus the fabulous environment and nature on the island is more than enough for many guests.
To hike around the whole Nidingen and keep in mind that the ice age created this island is awesome. The whole hike is mostly on round rocks with size from 1 cm to meter-large boulders.

  • The old lighthouses with their seats at the top of the tower are always a popular place to be.
  • The bathing water is very nice and at the jetty where the bath ladder sits is the fine sandy bottom.
  • The lawn surfaces invite to fun games or lighter ball-play.
Real experiences

Below We have more information about three activities or experiences that may differentiate most from everything else you can do on the West Coast…..

-

porpoises are often seen

During our RIB-tours we often see porpoises. Is there a herring or mackerel-shoal close, they do not care about our boat but swim around and eat in peace and quiet manner.

Paddle in the “lagoon”

Paddling with a kayak or SUP between the jetty and Klockfot-reef is popular.
The Reef has created a lagoon that is about 600 m in diameter and here are rarely big waves.
Large parts of the season, there is a seal-rookery on that part of the reef that is above sea level

  • 4 inflatable kayaks are available for rent, they are very stable and easy to maneuvre
  • 1-2 SUP available for rent
  • The equipment is included for conference groups

We can rent and bring more from the mainland if you order in advance.

Experience Lilleland

To the far east on the 4 km long reef that Nidingen consists of is the Lilleland Lighthouse. It is named after the small skerry “Lilleland” that is created in waves and currents, sometimes only in a few hours and then disappears just as fast again. The island is created east or north of the lighthouse on what is called the Lilleland Head. It is clearly visible on the Google image in the gallery on the left.
Normally all rocks are below the water surface.

A quiet day a paddling out here is one of the better experiences on the West Coast.

We always go past Lilleland on the way home with the boat so everyone will have a chance to see if an island is formed on this particular day.

The largest “island” we measured was 55 meters long, 8 meters wide and about 1 meter high. (December 2013)

Birding

Nidingen is one of Sweden’s premier nesting-islands. The Bird station is the third largest in the country with about 10 000 ringed birds each year and about 200 species registered.
The nice ornithologists who staff the station will be happy to guide you and show how weighing and ringing is made. If you are lucky you can even get a chanceto hold some birds.

Perhaps the most famous is the Blacklegged Kitiwake which nests on the lighthouses every year from April to August.
As you can see from the pictures on the left you will be close to them in the lighthouse.
